Give us all the summer vibes for summer! We shot this wedding last year and held it super-top-secret until just now! This mod-tropical Nor Cal wedding is out in the latest issue of The Knot magazine! Carolyn shares more about the vision for their celebration below:
“Scott and I have moved and traveled a lot over the course of our relationship, from meeting in the Peace Corps in Burkina Faso, to a short stint in France, to doing long distance from Nashville and Rwanda, and finally moving to Chicago together. Our friends and family have always been our anchor through all of these changes, so we wanted to make our wedding as focused on them as possible, stealing as much time with our favorite people as we could cram into a single weekend!
Scott’s parents graciously offered their beautiful home in San Rafael, CA for the wedding, and it turned out to be a perfect venue for a backyard wedding. We also have some incredibly talented friends whose gifts we wanted to incorporate into the event. My friends are amazing chefs in NYC, and they came out to California to do all of the food. Our good friend Stu officiated. I also enlisted my friend Whitney to make personalized bracelets for my bridal party, which turned out fabulously. It was really meaningful having such central parts of the wedding created by people we love.”
“Our florist (Hawthorn Flower Studio) did an amazing job capturing exactly what we were looking for with very little guidance (I asked for “greenery, palms, maybe a little yellow?”) Everything went really well with the clean palate we were looking for, adding just the right amount of color and softness.”
“We also invested in the chairs and tables as a big part of the design. We used the chairs for the ceremony and for dinner, and they gave a really modern feeling to the space. The wooden tables also allowed us to not have any draping, giving a very clean aesthetic.”
“Other elements of the wedding were also tailored around socializing. We had an extended cocktail hour (with a totally fun, retro cocktail trailer) and the dinner was served family style, at long tables. After dinner we had a dance floor by the pool, but also a drinks station and lounge area for a slightly chill vibe.”
